£20,007 for safe water project

  • Apr 20, 2016

Following a successful year, we are delighted to announce that we donated £20,007 to Frank Water in March 2016. This will fund a safe water project with tribal communities in the Eastern Ghats mountain area of India. The new Gravity Fed Water System will supply a village of between 300 and 500 people, and the project will also deliver additional training in the local community.

The Gravity Fed Water System provides a simple solution that involves tapping the water from springs in higher areas to surrounding communities. The water will then be filtered through a low tech filtration unit to ensure it is safe to drink. The filtration unit has been designed to fit the local environment so it does not require electricity and uses local materials. A water point is erected in every street (one for every ten households) so that women and girls in particular do not have to travel long distances in order to collect clean water.

The Frank Water team are doing a great job in increasing secure access to safe water and we are very pleased to be able to support this project. We are also hoping to be able to take some of our key staff out to India to see the difference the project makes and see construction in another country!
